Things Are Brewing in the DanceLAB

Danceworks DanceLAB is an experimental performance initiative dedicated to pushing artists and audiences to expand their thinking about dance as an art form.

The focus is on collaboration, fusion of forms and current trends in the field; many events include educational components to encourage artist-to-audience dialogue and participation. Danceworks DanceLAB honors and nurtures the development of new works by dance artists by offering year-round opportunities in the form of performances, internships, mentorships, space access and advocacy for artists serving the Milwaukee community. We stay on the lookout for talented emerging or established dance artists.

DanceLAB Emerging Choreographers: an·am·ne·sis

Saturday, March 28, 2020 // 6pm & 8pm

at Danceworks Studio Theatre

The Danceworks DanceLAB presents its first Emerging Choreographers Concert – showcasing the works of Zach Schorsch and Maggie Seer. Joined by nine of MKE’s most daring performance artists, Schorsch and Seer generate a subconscious ocean of nostalgia. Utilizing various elements of dance theatre, performers will activate shared memory, embodied recollection and necessary doubt.

Artist Bios:

Maggie Seer received her BFA in Dance from UW-Milwaukee in 2016. She has performed regularly with Danceworks Performance MKE since 2017 and Wild Space Dance Company since 2016. She performs with Maria Gillespie’s Hyperlocal MKE and the Gina Laurenzi Dance Project. She has choreographed several times for the Danceworks DanceLAB Get It Out There concert series and is excited to present a new work as part of the Danceworks DanceLAB Emerging Choreographers Concert. Maggie also fundraises and teaches for Danceworks, and loves exploring the Milwaukee community.

Zach Schorsch is a creator whose body of work includes dance, physical theater, poetry and visual art. Zach performed with the Danceworks Performance Company 18-19 and Danceworks Performance MKE in the fall of 2019. They have also shown work through Danceworks DanceLAB’s Get It Out There concert series and was given a Danceworks Space Grant in 2018. As a member of 53212 presents and a workshop facilitator for The Field MKE, Zach continues to collaborate with artists throughout the city.
