Danceworks Youth Performance Company’s 2023-24 Season

Danceworks Youth Performance Company (DYPC) is a company of Milwaukee-area dancers, ages 7-18, including Danceworks Minis and a Junior and Senior Company.

It is the goal of Danceworks Youth Performance Company to provide young artists of Milwaukee and the surrounding areas with quality dance training, new and exciting performance opportunities, and a connection to the larger arts community that ignites a lifelong interest and participation in the arts.

Within Danceworks Youth Performance Company, we strive to nurture and develop the body and spirit through dance technique, fitness, physical discipline and self-expression. Modeled after the professional company, Danceworks Performance MKE (DPMKE), DYPC members train in the art form year-round and participate in a season of dance events and concerts. Participating in DYPC is a great opportunity for young dancers to rehearse and train together, while enjoying unique performance experiences!

About the show: The magic of the season was experienced when Danceworks Youth Performance Company and featured studio classes took us on a journey through a snowy wonderland, brought to life with the beauty of dance. Small but Mighty

June 2-4, 2023

Milwaukee Youth Arts Center
325 W Walnut, Milwaukee, WI

About the Show:

Danceworks Performance MKE (DPMKE) presented “Small but Mighty,” a dance showcase featuring Milwaukee chamber ensembles Microcosm Ensemble, Black Cat Ensemble, Cosmo Reed Quintet and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. This performance captured the essence of Chamber music, known for its subtlety and intimacy. As the single voice of each instrument stands alone with clarity and delicacy, the combination creates mighty ornamentation and complexity that transports listeners to different worlds. Highlights included a collaboration between DPMKE member Nekea Leon and Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Steel Band Ensemble, along with world premieres by Soloist Elisabeth Roskopf, Artistic Director Christal Wagner and Choreographer Gina Laurenzi. Also appearing on the concert was Danceworks Intergenerational Performance Company (DIPC) also directed by Laurenzi and Danceworks Youth Performance Company (DYPC) directed by Gabi Sustache.

Special thank you to our Premiere Season Sponsors, Tim & Sue Frautschi.
