More currently, this art form is known for its short bursts of playful and performative routines, showcased in dance competition shows on national networks. Beneath the well-deserved fame lies an uncharted realm of Jazz’s Swing and Social Dance origins—a realm that often remains shrouded from popular perception. DPMKE investigates the roots and branches of this form, drawing inspiration from Swing Styling, Hip Hop, and vernacular stepping patterns, all infused with a Contemporary Jazz spin. This showcase promises to offer a captivating variety of movement and sound, poised to both mesmerize and ground our audience in its uniquely American history.
