Read on for all you need to know about what’s in the works this February with Danceworks – from in-person and virtual classes for youth and adults, to workshops and performance opportunities…there’s always a LOT in the works with us!

SESSION III YOUTH & ADULT CLASSES
Registration for Session III is going on now!
Session III: February 22 – May 29, 2021

Please Note:

  • Youth students are required to enroll for the full duration of Session III. Please note any prerequisites listed and email us with any questions pertaining to class placement.
  • Adult students are able to enroll for classes as their schedules allow.

    ALL classes must be registered for online at least 2 hours in advance of the class start time. Space is limited so register early! Classes which do not meet their minimum enrollment may be cancelled.

SUNDAY FAMILY FUN DAYS
February 14, March 14, April 11 (In-studio or virtual)
Art: 10:30-11:45am / Dance: 12-1pm
For families with children ages 5+

$20 for your choice of the art or dance workshop for up to 3 family members
$35 for both the art and dance workshops for up to 3 family members

February 14: Tweet Hearts
Rock with your favorite robins, and create your own fine-feathered work of art!

FELDENKRAIS MOVEMENT EFFICIENCY WORKSHOP
Reducing Neck and Shoulder Tension
Sunday, February 28, 2021, 10am-12pm (In-studio or virtual)
$25/Workshop

Holding habitual tension in the neck and shoulders is a fact of modern life and greatly impedes our daily activities. Participants in this workshop will learn specific movement sequences to recognize habitual tendencies as well as shift inefficient movement patterns into easy, fluid movement. By focusing your attention on differentiating and integrating the movements of the shoulder girdle with the neck and head, you will experience greater ease, articulation and comfort. Props required.

SOCIAL DANCE SERIES
Fridays 6:45-7:45pm (In-studio or virtual)
All regular adult pricing options apply.

Each social dance series will start with an introduction to the dance style and will work on building patterns and lead/follow skills throughout the lessons. You can join at any time, however, we do recommend you register for an entire series to gain the most from the class. This will give you the choreography, practice time and confidence needed to dance socially.

Due to Covid-19, the in-studio version of this class only allows dancers in pairs. For your convenience, we are also offering this class virtually over Zoom.

K-POP WORKSHOP

This genre of music, originating in South Korea, has taken the world by storm and has gained popularity on various music charts. K-Pop Dance Covers emerged around 2011 as part of the cultural storm of Korean pop culture. K-Pop cover videos have become one of the highest forms of tribute that fans use to honor and support their favorite artists. In this workshop series, you will learn choreography from popular Korean artists, BTS and others.

Switching to Virtual Class: Students can move to a virtual class at any time. For assistance with that, call our office at (414) 277-8480 or send an email. When making a switch from one format to another, we appreciate as much notice as possible.

Inclement Weather Reminder: Any class cancellations will be announced on local news channels 4 & 12, social media, and on the outgoing voice message. Missed classes due to an inclement weather cancellation can be made up in another class by contacting us here. No refunds will be issued for any classes canceled due to inclement weather.

Air Purification in the Studio: Horsch and Miller graciously donated and installed a Plasma Pure ionizer air purifying system, ensuring that the air in our studio is effectively recirculated and purified!

Winter of Gratitude: Part IV
Friday, February 19, 2021 at 7pm

Danceworks Performance MKE (DPMKE), along with Danceworks Youth Performance Company and dancers from the 50+ Performance Workshop will present the third in a four-part dance-for-camera series, Winter of Gratitude, inspired by the John Michael Kohler Art Center’s exhibit, Tokens of Appreciation. This fully virtual dance performance series is filmed and edited by veteran DPMKE artist and filmmaker Christal Wagner, with original music by Milwaukee composer, Lawton Hall*. Featuring 32 intergenerational dancers, spanning 7 decades and lifetimes of experience, the heart of this project is to share stories of gratitude, connect generations and build a stronger community.

Tickets for Parts I-III are available to purchase until March 20, 2021 at 12am.
