Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted on by 10Web Support

It’s almost Thanksgiving and I have never been so aware of the power in the name of this Holiday as I am this year.

I had walked into Danceworks’ lobby a couple weeks ago and the seats were filled with a group of 50+ Tap students who had just finished their class with Amy. Their faces were flush and glowing. We started talking—these are some of the greatest people I know—and I mentioned how our annual meeting was coming up. I said I wanted thankfulness to be our theme this year.

“Oh Debbie,” Kathy said, “Why, you need to have that every day!  I am thankful every day!” And it’s true—you can tell it by looking at Kathy. She’s been around Danceworks as long as I have, probably longer, and whenever I see her, I’m immediately warmed inside. She shared her secret why with me that day. It’s not that I don’t try to be thankful every day but I’m embarrassed by how quickly I can misplace it.

Feeling worn around the edges after work early this week, I carried my concerns in through the back door at home that night. Everything seemed a little out of place—nothing big, just a bunch of little things which had built up. I took them to bed with me and they were still there when I woke up. I answered an early phone call and then stopped to take a minute to scroll through Facebook on my phone. I saw this YouTube link, “The Science of Happiness”, posted by one of my staff. I watched it and was so quickly reminded how happiness is based on gratitude. I took a deep breath, changed my attitude and was amazed at how my spirits lifted. (Thanks Rach, Facebook and YouTube.)

I will prepare today for Thanksgiving tomorrow, both in my heart and while making my Mom’s pumpkin pie recipe. I will let Kathy’s voice ring in my head, “I am thankful every day!” I will try to let it ring so loud that others will be sure to hear.

We are so thankful for all of you! Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Danceworks!
