Things Are Brewing in the DanceLAB

Danceworks DanceLAB is an experimental performance initiative dedicated to pushing artists and audiences to expand their thinking about dance as an art form.

The focus is on collaboration, fusion of forms and current trends in the field; many events include educational components to encourage artist-to-audience dialogue and participation. Danceworks DanceLAB honors and nurtures the development of new works by dance artists by offering year-round opportunities in the form of performances, internships, mentorships, space access and advocacy for artists serving the Milwaukee community. We stay on the lookout for talented emerging or established dance artists.

Danceworks On Tap: Tapology

Presented by Jane Lewis & Mickey Maier. Sponsored in part by Bob Balderson, the Pam Kriger Donor Advised Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation and Constance Brinkman.
ran August 11-12, 2018
at the Danceworks Studio Theatre

Tapology [tap-ol-uh-jee]: The study of tap dance and its interconnections between art, science, and entertainment. Is there any connection between tap dance and the way we sleep?  Can audible sounds and visual images be used as if they were equations? How can we learn more about the study of light by combining it with rhythmic sounds? Danceworks On Tap explored the unTAPPED potential of combining the complexity of tap dance with the complexity of science as they unveiled that imagination is the starting point for both artistic and scientific creations.
