Things Are Brewing in the DanceLAB

Danceworks DanceLAB is an experimental performance initiative dedicated to pushing artists and audiences to expand their thinking about dance as an art form.

The focus is on collaboration, fusion of forms and current trends in the field; many events include educational components to encourage artist-to-audience dialogue and participation. Danceworks DanceLAB honors and nurtures the development of new works by dance artists by offering year-round opportunities in the form of performances, internships, mentorships, space access and advocacy for artists serving the Milwaukee community. We stay on the lookout for talented emerging or established dance artists.

Danceworks DanceLAB now accepting proposals for BRAND NEW Movement Media Lab!

Are you currently working on a dance film, or looking to begin a new project with movement as the main component? DanceLAB Series is calling for artists and filmmakers working with dance/movement to submit their ideas or works in progress for Movement Media Lab 2018.

Film or video in any genre: experimental, narrative, documentary, animation are invited to apply. The definition of dance and movement is broad, and all forms including but not limited to post modern, modern, world, tap, ballet, and hip-hop are encouraged and will be considered. The Movement Media Lab invites a process-based approach to analyzing and translating choreography/movement to the screen. The lab will also look at the relationship to the body in a 2D format, and highlighting movement through editing. Selected artists will show their finished works on Friday, September 28 or Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Danceworks Studio Theatre.

Interested artists are required to submit written proposals and biographical information to Danceworks on or before Tuesday, May 29, 2018 using the attached proposal form.
